*Disclaimer: A score of 5 is the midpoint for my reviews. Above 5 I like it. Below 5 I didn’t for some reason. Most of my reviews are between 4-7. It takes something really really special to go above 7 or below 4. See the methodologies for rating at the end of the article

Nose: Brown Sugar, Walnut, Pomegranate, Charred Oak, Fresh Leather.

Taste/Palate: Salted Caramel is front and center. There’s a bit of Stone Fruits and Nuts again. The palate flavors blend almost into a Maple Syrup in the midpalate.

Finish: The Salted Caramel and Maple subside and left with a still sweet finish, but one that’s accompanied with some deeper notes of Oak, Roasted Nuts, and Mild Leather.

Verdict: This one surprised me a little. Marsala wine is known to be more on the dry side. The Nut and Sugar notes are consistent, but I didn’t expect this dram to tip the scales on almost overly sweet. Aside from the Alcohol hit at the beginning of the palate this was sweet through and through. Spice was non-existent.
MSRP: $99 – Not a terrible buy Price Ceiling: MSRP (The most I’d pay for this bottle)

I did a quick comparison with the Yellowstone LE 2021. I take the 2021 every time. The 2022 isn’t bad, it’s just a little too sweet. I love the create blending, this one just didn’t hit home for me.

The Story: After finally grabbing a bottle in 2021 I’ve had this annual release on my radar. The 2022 didn’t quite trip my trigger like 2021 did, but that’s going to happen. This isn’t like Pappy 15 where you expect the same product year in and year out. Yellowstone is going out of their way to switch up blends and do things that are out of the ordinary. Don’t let this review sway you. If you see this bottle at MSRP and you like sweeter pours this might be one of your favs. I like it, but due to 2021 I had high expectations. My bar was set high.

The Distillery’s Story: “Every year since 2015, Limestone Branch has produced a limited-edition bourbon that is a little bit different than what everyone else is doing.

So far, the annual Yellowstone Limited Edition bottlings have included as many as three bourbons used in a blend and bourbon aged in wine casks, in re-charred wine casks, and even wine casks charred three different times.

Conditioning for the next release is still underway, with periodic tastings to determine when the bottles will be ready. But stay tuned, because this next bourbon release — like all the ones before it — promises to be unforgettable.”

Methodologies for Rating:
1. Dump it down the drain or regift it to someone you don’t care for.
2. This doesn’t even belong in a mixed drink. Use in case of an emergency.
3. It’s really not for me, but I heard some people like it.
4. Its only good when I’ve had too many and it’s decent in a mixer.
5. Average. Not bad, but not special.
6. Above average. Good to bring to an event and you wouldn’t expect any guff from it.
7. Buy two if you see it to make sure you have one on reserve.
8. Very Very good. Constantly a GREAT POUR.
9. Superb. If I were to drink this and only this from now on I’d be a happy person.
10. Perfection is impossible. But this really comes as close as you can possibly get.

Nose, Palate, and Finish I rank regardless of cost. Value (recent addition) is ranked based on taste vs price.
